Leaving August

Turning of the season. Goldenrod and Queen Anne's Lace, the last of the wild roses, blowzy and dark at petal's edge, dying, making way for rose hips like tiny pumpkins. Starlings explode across the sky...avian fireworks.

The coastal sky - low, dense, heavy with cloud and fog so much of the year - is high blue, distant, timeless. My clock-driven, busy self shrugged off, reduced to a humming shadow. The self that's stopped on the bridge at Mac Run, the part who is holding onto the railing, head thrown back, oblivious to the whine and flow of traffic on the road behind, sends herself out to join that miraculous sky. Looks down to watch the river - and to hell with the ever-present rusting, abandoned shopping cart - looks down to watch water streaming over the long green hair of river grass.

Flows with that.
Flows with that.

Deep breath.....sigh....smile.
I know those blue skies whereof you so elegantly speak. They are balm and respite after a crowded day at work.
The local creek is flowing again and is so clear you can see the ochre pea gravel that is usually under dry harded clay.
lj, thankyou for making me see. I will 'look' again tomorrow.

There is such a special energy to this time heading up to the Equinox. You capture it here.

Hello H, M, J...Thank you, kindly. This was a brief post (probably for the best because I often go on far too long)... The reason being that when I got home, I started doing laundry and the phone would not stop ringing. It took two hours to actually finish two little paragraphs. So much for flowing...
But it was lovely while it lasted.
Mary, you're right - there's a distinct feel to the equinox...

wooo you've moooooved!
nice blue blue sky.
i have hundreds of photos of skies and none of them are the same - that always gets me.
i liked your other diatribe about things large that are beyond the scope of our regualr thought - i've always thought the same was true of smaller things as well to the same extent.
so on that topic - start thinking about all the dust mites and how YOU could be THEIR world. now that also gets me thinking...
back to the hive like the proper worker bee i am i am in my pretty pink ascot noose.

String, you really don't like blogger do you? You'll have to make Yottabite idiot-proof for me to switch. Did you see what happened when I tried to post a picture at your place. It ate the entire screen! But I love the new look - and am hoping to win the caffeinated soap prize. (Just a reminder.)

ah yes, well pictures are really the only problem i've been struggling with. mostly because the creators of wordpress though it was a good idea to include the option for uploading pictures, but the code is completely half-assed. the problem, you see, involves directing people to use the REAL photo uploader, which does in fact work... anyway it's simply a pet peave and annoyance that i'm trying to code around right now - will let you guys know once I have resolved it :S

See? And I thought it was me. What is the REAL photo uploader, again?

Um, well that would be the one Wordpress coders had decided to disable, which I had to hand code back into version 2 (ported from 1.5...) At any rate it should be working now - give it a try!
